What is RateMyDesigner?

RateMyDesigner is a public platform where clients, agencies, and collaborators can leave honest, experience-based reviews of individual designers. We focus on the person — not the company — so feedback applies to freelancers, contractors, and employed designers alike.

Who can be listed on the platform?

Any professional designer whose work has been experienced firsthand by another person. This includes graphic designers, UX/UI designers, web designers, motion designers, brand designers, and more. A designer does not need to consent to be listed — profiles are added by the community based on professional experience.

Is RateMyDesigner affiliated with any agency or hiring platform?

No. We are an independent, company-agnostic platform. We have no relationship with any design agency, staffing firm, or job board. Reviews reflect individual professional experiences only.

Who can write a review?

Anyone who has worked directly with a designer — as a client, colleague, creative director, or collaborator. You can submit a review with or without a registered account. Anonymous reviews are accepted, though account-backed reviews carry more trust weight on the platform.

Can I edit or delete my review after submitting?

You can request a review update or removal by contacting our moderation team through the dispute process. We review each request on a case-by-case basis. We do not allow edits that change the meaning of a review without substantive new information.

What makes a review qualify for removal?

Reviews may be removed if they contain verifiably false statements of fact, identify personal information unrelated to professional work, constitute clear defamation, or violate our content policy. A negative opinion, even a harsh one, is not grounds for removal on its own.

Can a designer pay to remove bad reviews?

No. Paid plans give designers tools to respond to and formally dispute reviews, but no plan allows purchased removal. All reviews are moderated by the same standards regardless of whether the designer has a paid account.

How is a designer's overall rating calculated?

The overall rating is a weighted average of all approved reviews on a profile. Each review contributes equally. Ratings update automatically as new reviews are submitted.

What categories are designers rated on?

Reviewers rate designers across multiple professional dimensions including: Communication, Quality of Work, Meeting Deadlines, Professionalism, and Value for Money. These sub-scores are averaged into the overall rating.

Why does a profile show no rating even though it has reviews?

A minimum number of reviews is required before a public aggregate rating is displayed. This prevents a single outlier review from defining a profile unfairly. The exact threshold may vary based on platform configuration.

How do designer profiles get created?

Profiles are created by platform users who have worked with or know of a designer. A designer does not need to create their own profile. Once created, a profile is publicly visible and can receive reviews immediately.

Can a designer claim their own profile?

Yes. Designers can claim their profile by subscribing to a Pro or Pro Plus plan. Once your identity is verified, you can edit your bio, add portfolio links, update your photo, and set your availability status.

What happens after I claim my profile?

Your profile is marked as claimed, giving visitors confidence that the person behind it is verified. You can edit your profile information, respond to reviews (Pro Plus), and access dispute tools. Claiming does not affect your review history or scores.

What if there are two profiles for the same designer?

Use the "Report Duplicate" option on either profile, or contact us through the dispute form. We merge duplicate profiles and transfer review history to the canonical record.

What do I need to claim my profile?

You need a registered account and an active Pro or Pro Plus subscription. During the claim process, you will provide a portfolio URL, LinkedIn, or work email to help our team verify your identity against the profile.

How long does the claim verification take?

Most claims are reviewed within 2 business days. You will receive an email notification once your claim is approved or if we need additional information.

Can I unclaim my profile?

Yes. Contact us and we can detach your account from the profile. Note that your review history and rating remain publicly visible on the profile — unclaiming only removes your management access.

How is Amber Certified different from claiming a profile?

Claiming a profile is handled by RateMyDesigner and confirms that you manage the account associated with a profile. Amber Certified is issued by an independent organization and verifies that the human identity behind the profile is real, using government ID, professional records, and a live review.

Do I need to pay for Amber Certified?

Amber Certified is a third-party service. Their pricing and requirements are set independently of RateMyDesigner. Visit ambercertified.com for current pricing. Displaying the badge on your RateMyDesigner profile is automatic once verified — no additional cost from our side.

Is RateMyDesigner free to use?

Yes. Browsing profiles, reading reviews, and writing reviews are all completely free. Paid plans are only needed by designers who want to claim and manage their own profile.

What does the Pro plan include?

Pro gives designers the ability to claim their profile, edit their bio and portfolio, display a Pro badge, get discovered by clients looking to hire, and be matched with other freelance designers to collaborate on projects. It is designed for designers who want to take ownership of their presence and connect with a community.

What does Pro Plus add over Pro?

Pro Plus includes everything in Pro, plus: a Verified PRO+ badge, a "Hire Me" button with a direct contact link, priority placement in search results, the ability to publicly respond to reviews, priority dispute resolution, and a profile analytics dashboard.

Can I cancel my plan?

Yes, at any time. Your plan remains active through the end of the current billing period, then your account reverts to free. No cancellation fees or penalties.

Is there a free trial?

We do not currently offer a free trial. However, you can cancel within the first billing period and contact support if you feel the service was not as described — we review refund requests on a case-by-case basis.

What grounds can I dispute a review on?

Valid grounds include: the reviewer never worked with the designer, the review contains provably false factual claims, the review was posted in bad faith or as retaliation, or the review violates our content policy (harassment, personal information, hate speech).

How long does dispute resolution take?

Standard disputes are typically resolved within 5 to 7 business days. Pro Plus subscribers receive expedited handling, usually within 2 business days. You will be notified by email of the outcome.

Can a designer respond to a review publicly?

Public responses to reviews are available on the Pro Plus plan. Responses are displayed beneath the review on the profile page and must comply with our content policy.
